Counterfeit bills reported in Longview area

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview police are investigating at least three incidents where counterfeit currency was used in the past week.

The latest incident was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday when an unknown suspect tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at Telco Plus Credit Union, in the 400 block of Gilmer Road.

On Sunday, an unknown suspect tried to pass counterfeit bills at Super1Foods grocery store, in the 1200 block of East Marshall Avenue.

No arrests have been reported in either case.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, a 31-year-old Longview man was arrested for being in possession of four counterfeit $20 bills at a residence in the in the 2600 block of Buckner Drive.

Steven Wayne Hooker remains today in the Gregg County Jail on $201,500 bond, facing four counts of forgery, bond forfeiture on a prior arrest for failing to identify a fugitive by giving false information, a warrant for misdemeanor theft and three outstanding traffic warrants. Hooker was out of jail on $10,000 bond after his May arrest for disobeying a court order.
