EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - A cold front with dry, windy weather is expected this weekend. And with only a slim chance of rain, that means fire danger across East Texas.

Smith County Assistant Fire Marshal Oren Hale says it's important to keep up with weather forecasts regularly. Any time winds are 22 mph or above, outdoor burning is not allowed. Burning when with winds above 22 MPH violates state law. It's a Class C misdemeanor with a fine up to $200.

Within Tyler city limits, outdoor burning is always illegal, with very few exceptions.
