TYLER (KYTX) - One out of every eight individuals over 65 years old has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. That means that every 68 seconds, someone is diagnosed.
So people across the nation "Walked to End Alzheimer's" today. 100 of those people walked and ran for the cause in Tyler. That walk was emceed by CBS 19's Doc Deason.
Event organizers say the majority of those who participated in the walk know someone who has been affected by Alzheimer's.
The Alzheimer's Association's Vice President of Programs and Services, Debra Adams, says, "It means they understand there is a need for awareness, and that's basically why we're here. We do have support groups and education we provide, but to have the families come out and say we recognize this disease as an important piece of health legislation going forward, and an important piece in our lives."
Money raised goes to support Alzheimer's programs, services, and research. The money raised here in East Texas stays here, and is used in local programs.
