UPDATE: Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary told KYTX CBS 19 that, at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday, firefighters were called to a residential structure fire at 113 Fairview Drive. On arrival, fire crews found two vehicles, a recreational vehicle, a motorcycle and a boat on fire, as well as the garage to the home.
The two owners of the home were in the garage when the fire occurred, Zackary said. A gas leak from a motorcycle ignited. Both occupants sustained burns and were transported by ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center. The wife sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Parkland hospital's burn unit in Dallas. The husband sustained serious injuries and will be transported to Parkland, Zackary said.
"Although this unfortunate event happened today with this couple, we caution people to not run motorized vehicles in garages. Even if the garage door is open, because if there is a fuel leak, the vapors can't escape," the fire marshal said. "This family wouldn't want something like this to happen to anybody else."
Firefighters doused the flames completely by about 3:20 p.m. Sunday. Though the five vehicles were completely destroyed as well as garage, the rest of the home suffered mostly smoke damage, leaving much that can be salvaged, Zackary said. A neighbor's home suffered minor heat damage from the flames, he said.
