2 More West Nile Deaths Confirmed in East Texas

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- The Texas Department of State Health Services reports two more West Nile deaths in East Texas as of Monday.  People infected with the mosquito borne disease have now died in Harrison County and Cass County.  That makes five total deaths in East Texas including Cherokee, Gregg and Panola counties.   There are 72 human cases confirmed in East Texas and Rains County is the most recent to join the list.

The health department says there are 1,127 confirmed human cases across the state now and a total of 50 deaths.  Experts say avoid being outside at dawn and dusk, drain standing water around your home, and people with the exception of infants should wear insect repellant with DEET.
