Development off Old Jacksonville booming, bringing new attractions

Tyler, Texas (KYTX) -- It's being called the hottest area for both commercial and residential development.

Tom Mullins, President of Tyler's Economic Council, explains that the widening of Old Jacksonville has opened up new opportunities.

"You're going to see these open areas begin to fill in more. We know there will probably be more restaurants who will open up along that corridor, " Mullins said.

One new store you can expect in 4 to 5 months is Spinout, which currently sits off Broadway. "Broadway has just exhausted itself. So if you are going to grow anywhere, it seems like Old Jacksonville road is the way everything is going," Diane Bunker, owner of Spinout, said.

She said her decision rested on not having to pay rent anymore, and it helps to have residents moving into the area.

"Most people in real estate know that you want to get your residential as close to your retail as you can, and that's what Old Jacksonville offers," Andy Bergfeld, President of Bergfeld Realty, said.

The Palomar apartment complex, which broke ground on Tuesday, should be finished by March of 2013.
