SHREVEPORT (KTBS) - A Shreveport soldier is dead after his military vehicle was hit by a tractor trailer on I-49.

The National Guard has identified the soldier as 30-year old Sgt. Kevin Weiner. He was assigned to the 165th CSSB out of Bossier City.

State police say Weiner was on his way back from south Louisiana where he'd been helping with hurricane relief when his military Hummer, which was part of a convoy, was hit from behind near Natchitoches.

Weiner was pronounced dead at the scene. A second soldier suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Weiner leaves behind a wife and young children.

A fellow solider, who was with Weiner in south Louisiana says he was always willing to help anyone who needed it.
