TYLER (KYTX) -- People trying to get from one side of south Tyler to the other are one step closer to driving a new route.

The Genecov Group and Blue Ridge Real Estate are donating 23 acres worth of land to provide right of way for Cumberland Road to be extended west. That project will connect South Broadway with Old Jacksonville Highway.

"We can move from design straight into construction without having to worry about or having that lengthy process associated with acquisition," city of Tyler engineer Carter Delleney said.

Delleney said the city still has to take care of a smaller section of right away. Construction should start in June of 2014.
