Posted: Updated:

Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election, in which Lakeport residents will decide whether to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption, and the sale of mixed drinks at restaurants, will be held at the Elderville Community Building, at the corner of Texas 322 and FM 349 next to the East Texas Regional Airport.

Early voting is scheduled for Oct. 22 through Oct. 26 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, and Oct. 29 through Nov. 2 at 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily.

Voters in Henderson approved the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption and the sale of mixed drinks at restaurants in 2011. According to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, the city's year-to-date sales tax rebates total $3.65 million, an increase of nearly 11 percent over the same period in the previous year.

Lone Star residents in 2011 also approved a similar measure. The City of Lone Star has received $111,584 in rebates year-to-date, marking a 20.7 percent increase over the same period in 2011.

Winona approved alcohol measures in 2010. During several months of 2011, the city's sales tax revenues more than doubled in several months compared to the previous year. The comptroller's office says sales tax revenues are down 1.33 percent in 2012 year-to-date compared to 2011, and that revenues for July sales dropped 42 percent from the previous year.
