City of Longview Animal Shelter Task Force

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A committee is making strides in solving Longview's pet overpopulation problems.

The Longview Animal Shelter Task Force held their second meeting in as many weeks Tuesday. Mayor Jay Dean has given the group up to 90 days to determine whether the Humane Society of Northeast Texas is meeting the city's sheltering needs.

"We're looking at a lot of different options," Assistant City Manager Chuck Ewings said. "I don't think there's a specific option on the table at this point. I know we're going to continue to utilize the humane society for our needs as a city."

The task force meets again at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the city's Development Services Building, located at 411 S. High Street.
