Kaufman County Sheriff's Office:

KAUFMAN (KYTX) - After almost nine years of dedicated service to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office K-9 Team, Max the super sniffer is retiring. Still full of pep and energy with a little gray hair around his muzzle and dotting his coal black fur coat, not much gets by those piercing yellow eyes. Max was born in 2002 and came to work for the Sheriff's Office in 2003. Throughout his nine years Max and his handlers have responded to a variety of calls. This last year Max has been handled by Deputy Curtis Billings, who will be teamed with a new drug dog in the very near future. Billings stated, "We had a lot of success on the street and we tracked a lot of bad guys and caught them so it was really good."

Max has worked on everything from drug investigations, people at large, to missing people, and too many drug searches to name. Max was also a favorite among spectators during demonstrations of his skills. Now it is Max's turn to live the easy life as a family pet with a previous handler.

So ends a career dotted with major drug seizures, including some of the biggest of their time and some not-so major cases, all of which helped fight the multibillion dollar war on drugs. Farewell Max!
