LONGVIEW (KYTX) - The city of Longview will keep a contract in place with the Humane Society of Northeast Texas for now. The city council met Thursday night and voted to extend the contract another year for the shelter to house stray animals in the city. That's despite allegations the shelter is mismanaging funds. An animal welfare attorney brought up questions about spending after reviewing financial records. The Humane Society denies those allegations.

Relief from overpopulation could be coming soon. Mayor Jay Dean tells CBS19 a new shelter should be built by this time next year.
