Day 5: Chicago teacher strike

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (CNN) - Classes are canceled again for Chicago school students. This is for the fifth straight day.

Thursday, thousands of teachers marched in the streets. There are signs that a resolution may be close between Chicago's school board and the teachers. Both sides are working to find middle ground over issues like pay and new tough teacher evaluations.

"We had another good day in working to close gaps and I think we made some pretty good progress," says David Vitale, Chicago Board of Education President.

"I mean this is long and exhausting work. We're all tired. That's it," says Karen Lewis, Chicago Teachers Union President.

Both sides say they hope kids can return to school on Monday.
