Chicago teachers extend strike

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (CBS) - Chicago schools will remain closed for at least one more day.

The Teachers Union decided not to vote on a tentative agreement reached over the weekend. Union reps say they had only a few hours to consider the deal and they need more time to read over the agreement.

They don't plan to meet again to vote on the proposal until Tuesday, after the end of Rosh Hashanah. However, Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants the teachers back in school today. He has instructed city attorneys to seek a court injunction which would immediately end the strike.
