Students concerned after shots fired at apartment complex near UT Tyler

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- Investigators were still trying to figure out who fired a shotgun at the Cambridge apartments on Old Omen Road and across the street from UT Tyler Monday night.

Police said they found shotgun shells when they got to the Cambridge apartments.

Students who live there told CBS 19 the complex had been lax about security leading up to the shooting Monday. They said even though there's been an increase in security since the shooting, they're worried it won't be enough.

"What I wonder is why did they wait until after?" resident Emerson Ornstein asked. "They should have been trying to avoid this instead of just trying to contain it after."

Management at Cambridge refused to answer questions about security Tuesday morning. Cambridge's owner, Asset Campus Housing did not respond to our questions about long-term security and safety on the property.

Tyler Police have made no arrests and named no suspects."
