Jimmy Carter's grandson arranged release of Romney video

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Former President Jimmy Carter's grandson says he was the middleman between Mother Jones and the person who made the secret recording of Mitt Romney back in May.

On Monday, clips of Romney speaking at a campaign fundraiser were released on the website of the left-leaning magazine "Mother Jones." James E. Carter IV, like his grandfather, is a Democrat. Romney explained the comments at a news conference late Monday, then on "FOX News" on Tuesday.

"We were talking about a campaign and how he is going to get close to half the vote. I'm going to get half the vote. I hope I will get 50.1% or more. Frankly we have two different views about America."

"A lot of my Twitter followers have been saying that this is, it's poetic justice that a Carter was the one who had helped to get out this video that's given the Romney campaign so much trouble and I agree with that," says James E. Carter IV.

Meanwhile, a new national poll indicates President Obama has a slight edge over Romney, with their numbers virtually unchanged since before the party conventions.
