Who's hiring in East Texas?

TYLER (KYTX) - Nearly 40 companies have jobs up for grabs in East Texas. Hundreds of job seekers filled the East Texas Workforce Center in Tyler this morning to get a first crack at them.

Magen Segura has been without a job for four months. She just moved to Tyler from Palestine.

Magen came to this job fair hoping to find a new career.

"I just prayed and said something is going to work out. I know it is. I have all the faith that God's got me," said Magen.

Carlon Moore has been filling out applications everyday.

"I was in the military for 14 years," said Moore.

But, even with all his military experience, he still can't find work.

"Some jobs say I'm over qualified because of my military background," said Moore.

When you find yourself navigating through a crowd of job seekers, one of the most popular questions is how do I stand out?"

"Employers hire people who have confidence, a smile, who appear friendly," said Steve Lynch.

Steve Lynch with Workforce Solutions East Texas said more jobs have opened up recently in East Texas, from department stores to manufacturing.

"Even people that lack work history or who have other barriers to employments, they can sell themselves. Many employers give people second chances everyday," said Lynch.

When you're approaching hiring managers at job fairs, you have to dress the part and show you're eager for a job.

"Ask information, what's out there, what we have available, what is the job like," said Marcela Bucio.

Marcela Bucio brought a team of managers from different Lowe's stores in East Texas. They're looking to hire anywhere from 50-60 people.

"We're looking for someone who is not afraid to talk to the customer and take care of the customer," said Bucio.

While you're talking to company managers and filling out applications, don't forget the basics.

"You would be surprised how many people forget to put their phone number on their application," said Lynch.

Because you never know when you might get that phone call saying you've got the job.
