TYLER (KYTX) -- Traffic was backed up through the 6:00 hour Thursday evening as rescue workers responded to a major accident.

It happened at the corner of Thistle Drive and Troup Highway (110) in front of the Crown Kia dealership at about 5:20 Thursday afternoon.

An off-duty Tyler police officer called in the wreck after watching a Mazda Tribute SUV in one of the eastbound lanes flip several times before slamming into a pole. That officer said the people inside were lucky to be alive.

Two adult women and a toddler were transported to a local hospital with injuries paramedics said were non-life threatening. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
