UPDATE: Apartment fire leaves four families homeless

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- The Tyler Fire Department confirmed to CBS 19 that four families were displaced from apartments at Town Village South.

Released by Tyler Fire Department:

The Tyler Fire Department responded to a two-alarm structure fire this afternoon at 200 Muller Garden.  The initial call was received at 4:22 p.m. and the caller reported a building on fire.  First arriving unit called for a second alarm.  Five engines and one Ladder Company, along with a District Chief and an Investigator, responded to the scene.

The fire apparently originated in one of the apartments possibly due to mishandling of smoking materials.  Residents were at home when the fire started, but were not injured.  There was heavy fire damage to at least 4 apartments, heavy smoke damage to 4 apartments, and moderate smoke damage to 8 apartments.
