Lindale ISD:

LINDALE (KYTX) - The efforts of Lindale ISD staff members, parents and students to promote healthy lifestyles and spotlight social issues has garnered support from some major agencies in Lindale and Smith County. Next week the groups will join to provide life-saving and insightful information and activities during a community-wide health fair.

The Lindale ISD School Health Advisory Council will host the health fair on Tuesday, October 2 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lindale Junior High School located at 15000 CR 463.

Doctors and local organizations will provide information on topics including: diabetes, obesity, dental hygiene, athletic improvement and sports medicine with a focus on head injuries. Health screenings will also be conducted.

Flu shots will be provided at a cost by Fleming/Tindel Medicine Chest. For pricing information, please contact the store at (903) 882-3158.

Local law enforcement agencies will lead sessions on gun and fire safety, sexting and texting, and drug and alcohol awareness. Lifetouch Photography along with the Department of Public Safety and FBI will present information regarding student identification and the Smile Safe Kids program.

Social issues affecting students and adults will be addressed through sessions on coping with depression and anxiety, spiritual health, healthy relationships, internet and social networking safety, and texting and cellphone conversations while driving.

Lindale ISD's Child Nutrition Department will also provide updates on changes to federal nutrition requirements for school lunches.

Lindale Junior High School students will write, produce, film and edit public service announcements on topics covered at the health fair. The PSA's will be on display in the LJHS library. Exercise activities such as Zumba and fitness routines from Anytime Fitness will be demonstrated in the school's gymnasium.

"We want the community to know that this event is not just for junior high students or parents of Lindale students," SHAC Advisor Belinda Neal said. "Our goal is to educate and support the health and social lives of all members of the Lindale community. We hope that we can inspire healthy life choices in all those who call this area home."

For more information, please contact Dr. Neal at (903) 881-4000 or nealbk@lindaleeagles.org.
