President Obama to address U.N. today

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - President Obama will arrive at the U.N. today where he will address the full General Assembly. The President arrived in New York on Monday, but has not had any private meetings with world leaders in town for the U.N. meetings. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has taken the lead meeting with the presidents of Pakistan, Libya, Afghanistan and Egypt. She's urged the leaders to stand together and resist what she calls the forces of extremism.

(CBS) - Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is also in town for the U.N. session and he's already created a controversy. During a meeting Monday afternoon, Ahmadinejad accused the United States of shielding what he called a fake regime. He was talking about the Israeli government. That comment caused the Israeli delegation to get up and leave. He also said the U.S. allowing an anti-Islam video to be made is a misuse of freedom of speech.
