It doesn't stop there. Experts say teaching your teen driver the importance of basic auto repair, including maintenance and vehicle inspection are important for the safety of your teen and other drivers on the roads.
"I think the vehicles today are a lot smarter and we don't think about teaching our kids how to maintenance a vehicle."
Mike Caruso said his 15 year-old son barely knew the basics.
"Needed gas in the vehicle he stood there and said, 'how do I do this?"
Fairway Auto Parts Service Advisor Terry Strawn say's he's constantly on the phone with parents calling in need of assistance for their child.
"Sit down with your child and ask them if they have any questions. If they have any questions about it and you can't answer them bring them to us if you can't answer that question for your child."
"I take care of it my parents taught me to keep good up keep of my car so I can have it a long time."
Rakheem Goldstein say's he does it all when it comes to his car.
"Keep my windows clean make sure my sparks plugs good make sure my battery's good and charged up, just keep up the maintenance keep checking on it, ya know"
