Health Alert: Americans urged to get flu shot

(CBS) - Federal healthcare experts are urging you to get a flu shot. This year's vaccine protects against two different influenza strains that are now circling the globe. The shot is recommended for almost everyone over six months old. Last year less than 50 percent of Americans got one.


(CBS) - Researchers may have figured out how to help millions who take beta blockers get a better night sleep. The drugs help control high blood pressure - but in some people it also causes sleeping problems. A new study in the journal "Sleep" found melatonin supplements can significantly improve sleep in some of these patients. Melatonin is a chemical the brain produces when its time to sleep.


(CBS) - Eating cherries may stop the pain caused by gout. Gout is a type of arthritis that attacks the joints - most often the big toe, knee and ankle. Boston doctors found people who ate cherries had a 35 percent lower risk of gout flare ups. They believe the fruit lowers the inflammation that causes pain.
