North Texan soldier's death marks 2000th casualty in Afghanistan

(KYTX) - The Department of Defense announced today the death of a North Texas soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. 

The Pentagon said Sgt. 1st Class Riley G. Stephens, 39, of Tolar, Texas, died Friday after being wounded by enemy small arms fire in Wardak province.

Stephens was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

Tolar is 43 miles southwest of Fort Worth in Hood County.
