Business News: Encouraging news on the labor market

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Wall Street gets more insight into the job market today with the government's weekly report on the number of people applying for unemployment benefits. Investors got some encouraging news on the labor market Wednesday when a private payroll company said U.S. businesses added slightly more workers than expected last month. That's a hopeful sign ahead of the government's monthly unemployment report which comes out on Friday.

(CBS) - Crude oil fell below 89 dollars a barrel to a two month low on fresh evidence of slow a down in China. Investors are concerned that demand for oil will decrease as economic growth slows around the world.

(CNN) - A new feature on Facebook will guarantee your latest status is seen. The social network is allowing some users to pay a small fee to make sure their friends see their "can't miss" updates. Facebook's experimental "promote" feature costs around $7 dollars to bump posts to the top of newsfeeds. Right now, only a small amount of Facebook's 166-million U.S. users are able to take part in the trial run. Facebook has not yet said whether this will become a permanent feature on the site.
