Before you know it, fall will be here and it will be time to go back to school.  For parents that means stocking up on notebooks, number two pencils, and back to school clothes, all of which usually take a big chunk out of a family's budget.  So, just how much do parents will pay to send their kids off to school this year?More >>

TYLER (KYTX) - The Hospice of East Texas celebrated their anniversary with a luncheon this afternoon at The Harvey Hall Convention Center.

There was a great turnout with businesses, organizations and people who from the very beginning created and supported Hospice in its efforts to serve East Texas Families dealing with life limiting-illnesses.

"My husbands legs just came out from under him...and If I had not been holding his hands he would have fallen on the floor.

Jeannette Marine could no longer handle the physical stress of caring for her dying husband.

So, she went to The Hospice of East Texas.

Jeannette knew immediately she had found a facility that could help take care of him.

"I was so awed by the facility I said to Rita, do you think I could get a room here?"

Since 1982, The Hospice of East Texas has provided families with physical, emotional, and spiritual peace.

"They were very cordial and very informative and told us as long as she needs us she'd be able to stay here."

Hershell Smith say's because of that, his mother is dying with dignity and that puts the family at ease.

"She's getting the best treatment better than we can give her."

The non-profit organization celebrated today's anniversary with a luncheon to show appreciation to all those involved and for all of the donations that help make their organization successful.

In the last year alone, The Hospice of East Texas has provided over 1.2 million dollars in uncompensated care to families who either had no insurance, or Hospice wasn't included in their coverage. That's mainly because The Hospice of East Texas say their committed to taking care of families regardless of their ability to pay.

So families like Jeanette's can focus more on enjoying those last days with their loved ones, And less on medical expenses

"You cannot ask for a better place to be if you have to end of your life."

Leaders with the Hospice of East Texas say they look forward to being a comfortable shoulder, an attentive ear and a place to serve East Texas families for another 30 years to come.
