Smith County home damaged in morning fire

Posted: Updated:

KYTX (FLINT) - Fire tears through a Smith County home early this morning.

It happened in the Flint area, just after one this morning in the 16,000 block of County Road 1112 -- that's off of FM 2661.

Firefighters tell us the home was destroyed, but everyone did make it out safely. Noonday, Flint-Gresham, and Dixie Volunteer Fire Departments helped battle the fire. The Smith County Fire Marshal is investigating, but right now, we don't know what caused the fire.

Noonday's chief firefighter tells us one of their firefighters responding to the fire was involved in an accident on the way to the fire. He was driving his personal vehicle and was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Firefighters say with this being the first cold weather weekend, they are warning people to be careful with space heaters. Also, be sure they are not near flammable materials like curtains and blankets. Make sure they are in good working condition. And, have your home heating system checked out by professionals.
