EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Two people are killed following early-morning, one-vehicle wrecks in consecutive days in East Texas.
On Sunday, a 23-year-old Upshur County man died
after his 1997 Chevy pickup left the roadway on Bluebird Road and
overturned. According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Karl Oney
was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday. Trooper
Robbie Moore says the wreck happened at about 4:10 a.m. Sunday.
Shortly after 3:30 Monday morning, a one-vehicle wreck in Anderson County left one man dead and another man hospitalized.
According to DPS Trooper Bradley Sutton, 41-year-old
Adedap Afolabi Adekunle, of Philadelphia, Pa., was driving his Hyundai
SGX southbound on U.S. 287 about one-third mile southeast of FM 2706
when he struck two horses standing in the roadway.
Sutton's passenger, 26-year-old Hakeen Mohammed, of
Dallas, died at the scene, as did the two horses. Adekunle was
transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center with lacerations to his
head. Both men worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Mohammed's body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Palestine. Next of kin have been notified.
