EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Two people are killed following early-morning, one-vehicle wrecks in consecutive days in East Texas.

On Sunday, a 23-year-old Upshur County man died after his 1997 Chevy pickup left the roadway on Bluebird Road and overturned. According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Karl Oney was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday. Trooper Robbie Moore says the wreck happened at about 4:10 a.m. Sunday.

Shortly after 3:30 Monday morning, a one-vehicle wreck in Anderson County left one man dead and another man hospitalized.

According to DPS Trooper Bradley Sutton, 41-year-old Adedap Afolabi Adekunle, of Philadelphia, Pa., was driving his Hyundai SGX southbound on U.S. 287 about one-third mile southeast of FM 2706 when he struck two horses standing in the roadway.

Sutton's passenger, 26-year-old Hakeen Mohammed, of Dallas, died at the scene, as did the two horses. Adekunle was transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center with lacerations to his head. Both men worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
