Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview Independent School District Deputy Superintendent Andrea Mayo has been nominated to serve on the board of directors for Longview Economic Development Corp., the city has announced.

Mayo was selected Tuesday by the city's Council Appointments Committee following nominations from LEDCO board members. Her selection remains tentative until there is a final vote by the Longview City Council, which meets 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

Mayo replaced the nomination of Ed Banos, former chief executive officer for Good Shepherd Medical Center, who left the hospital earlier this month. The hospital has not named his replacement, while Vice President Ken Cunningham serves as interim CEO.

Mayo began her career in Longview ISD in 1979. She has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, supervisor and director. One of her favorite jobs was serving as the principal of Doris McQueen Primary School. Mayo, a native of Louisiana, holds a B.A. in education from Louisiana Tech University and a masters degree in secondary educational administration from Stephen F. Austin State University.

According to its website, the Longview Economic Development Corporation (LEDCO) is one of Texas' major economic development groups managing economic development for the City of Longview, Texas.  If a local company is planning to expand or if a business from outside the region wants to locate in Longview, LEDCO's professional staff is trained to help them. LEDCO partners with over twenty groups in the region to provide high quality, critical information including available land and buildings. Since October 1999 LEDCO has provided incentives to 43 existing and 18 new companies.
