Voter registration ends for Nov. election

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - The time period to register to vote for the November election has ended. Elections offices closed at 5pm Tuesday, and for people wanting to mail in their registration application, they needed to be postmarked October 9, 2012. There is no grace period or exceptions for registering to vote.

Smith County Elections Administrator Karen Nelson said there was a huge turnout for November voters.  "Our registration's up. We've processed over 4,000 applications since July so it's really up this year and yes, if you're not registered by today or your application is not postmarked by today then you'll miss being able to vote in the November sixth election."

Early voting in Texas is October 22 through November 2.
