Arrest warrant issued for driver in fatal crash in Smith County

TYLER, (KYTX) – A crash yesterday afternoon left one woman dead and an arrest warrant has been issued for the driver. The crash occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. when the 2010 Ford F-350 truck the two were riding in ran off the road and struck a tree in Smith County near the city of Overton.

The driver, identified as Justin Lee Echols of Diana, was traveling North bound on CR 217 just off of FM 850 when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve and ran off the East side of the road. Dead on the scene was 27 year-old Michele Ann Allen of Harleton.

Witnesses advised investigating troopers that the driver had fled the scene on a four-wheeler the couple was towing behind the truck. TDCJ tracking dogs assisted in the attempt to locate the driver, but at this time, Echols has not been found.

Investigating troopers have obtained an arrest warrant for Justin Lee Echols, charging him with 'Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death' a 3rd Degree Felony. Judge Kerry Russell of the 7th Judicial Disrtict Court signed the warrants at 4PM this afternoon. Bond had been set at $250,000.
