Discovery Science Place making Makers

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - The Discovery Science center is making makers out of East Texans.

It was an electric kick-off event this afternoon, when the center announced it was named a part of the national Make Movement.

Kids and parents got the chance to get hands on and start tearing apart, rebuilding, launching and just making their own inventions.

"The whole idea about the Maker Movement is it's really about inventing, hacking, thinking, being able to take something and remake it into your own thing. It's really a very creative, technological version of self expression and it could be artistic, could be all sorts of stuff," says CEO of Discovery Science Place, Phil Lindsey.

There are 60 designated Make Movement centers in the U.S.

Only 2 others in Texas.

There will be a Maker Fair on March 23rd next year that will draw more than 20 makers, or inventors.

Until then, Discovery Place will host monthly workshops.
