Pipeline protests continue in Wood County

Posted: Updated:

WOOD COUNTY (KYTX) -- Several dozen additional protesters gathered Monday to support an existing group or protesters who have been sitting in trees in the pipeline's path for the last three weeks.

They sang and chanted along FM 2088 near Winnsboro throughout the day. Many of them came from outside Texas and as far away as California. Most of them were focused on reducing our dependence on oil.

"The public at large is becoming aware of the unsustainability of the fossil fuel industry," Jessica Lee, of Salt Lake City, said. "Tar sands are the dirtiest fuel known to man."

Approximately ten protesters were arrested.

"You know individuals have a right to expression but they don't have a right to break the law," TransCanada Spokesperson David Dodson said. "They certainly don't have the right to endanger our employees, the landowners or the general public."

Dodson said construction is ongoing and has not been substantially effected by the protests.
