TYLER (KYTX) - The City of Tyler Parks and Recreation Department will unveil its newest park Friday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. The dedication will take place at the site of the park, located at 2713 Frankston Highway.

The property, which has a historic home site, was donated to the City of Tyler by Gladys and TB Stewart, who were long-time St. Louis Community residents. The Stewart's were married for 75 years and together for more than 83 years. Although they had no children, they understood the need for safe, neighborhood parks.

Gladys taught for the Tyler Independent School District for more than 50 years and TB worked for Roosth and Genecov as well as with the Lisner Family who owned the Maxine Lady's shop located in downtown Tyler.   They had a deep love for church, community, friends and students and made it their lifetime goal to provide opportunities for advancement and success.

The Stewarts often expressed their belief that every child deserved the opportunity to have an education. The commitment to that belief spawned the Gladys and TB Stewart Scholarship fund, given by the East Texas Communities Foundation.

They also believed children needed to be given the opportunity to play and have fun. They donated their homestead to the City of Tyler to become a neighborhood gathering spot to serve the needs of the St. Louis community and the City of Tyler.

The City of Tyler has budgeted this fiscal year to include an overall master plan of the property for future development.  The ceremony will include the unveiling of the park sign.   This gift to the City will be official after City Council approval at their Oct. 24, meeting.
