Retail loss prevention worker jailed for bilking employer

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - For three years, Aaron Charles Dobbins was responsible for preventing loss at Longview retailer Ross Dress for Less. Tuesday, he was arrested for bilking nearly $2,000 from the store.

According to an arrest affidavit from Gregg County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson, Dobbins is charged with state jail felony theft. He remains in the Gregg County Jail today, and bond has not been set.

At about 6 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to Ross Dress for Less in the 1700 block of West Loop 281 in reference to an employee theft. Dobbins was under arrest for a motor vehicle inspection warrant, but store employees told officers that Dobbins, who worked loss prevention for Ross for the past three years, had made refunds to himself without the store's consent from Sept. 15 until Monday, according to court records. Dobbins would go to a register with no customer or merchandise, and he would create a return and then refund it to a voucher card, all documented by a regional loss prevention manager through video surveillance and a paper trail, records showed.

Dobbins is believed to have refunded $1,934.04 to store vouchers in 37 separate transactions, records showed. He waived his Miranda rights and told officers that he did make the unauthorized refunds, selling some of the cards on the street for less than face value for cash, and also making purchases in the store on at least 10 occasions.
