LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Superintendent of Tatum I.S.D. says a 4 year old Pre-K student walked out of the schools front doors unsupervised and unnoticed.
Tatum Primary School is a Pre-K to third grade campus with 530 students.
On Tuesday morning, while teachers were escorting their students to their class rooms, one preschooler slipped away from the group, and walked outside of the building.
Neighbors in the area say the school being so close to the high speed traffic on the highway is a very scary thought.
"No student needs to walk outside and get hit by a car, that would be a tragedy, that's a family member lost in a family."
The little boy was safely returned inside the building.
Now the district has had to make changes by adding additional supervision near exits and longer supervision time to be sure all student are accounted for.
The school district says that safety is top priority in Tatum ISD, therefore a breakdown in safety procedures is one too many.
The little boy was returned by two parents who found him alone in the parking lot.
The district says this is the first time anything like this has happened at the Tatum LPrimary School.
