Education majors learn ways to explain the electoral process to children

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - With all the media exposure --even the youngest children are catching onto the fact that there's a presidential election going on. So how do you explain Democracy to your kids?

The chair of TJC's Department of Education is teaching college students in the field of education --how to explain the electoral process.

She says children's books are a great tool.

A popular one right now is "Bad Kitty for President".

"To think about 'what are some of the creative things I can do to help children', I know it's hard. But just, probably one of the simplest things to do is read to children and talk about the process," said Kay Lynn Moran, TJC Dept. of Education Chair.

Mock elections and using a familiar framework like family members to explain how government is structured can help too.
