Woman charged with filing false sexual assault report out of jail

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A Tyler woman who told police she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man in her apartment is out of jail after being charged with filing a false report to officers.

Tyler Police Public Information Officer Don Martin said the 25-year-old woman called 911 last week and said she had been running on Rose Rudman Trail when she returned to her apartment at 2911 Shiloh Road.
"She said she took a shower and when she came out there was a man she did not know and he attacked and sexually assaulted her," he said.

Martin said officers quickly responded as did detectives with major crimes and he added the woman even went to the hospital to have a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner exam.

Martin said officers stopped short of releasing details about the crime, because the woman's story started changing.
"If we would have released when it happened then people would have thought we had a rapist on the loose and a lot or women would have been worried," he said.

Martin said the evidence showed the woman had fabricated the story, but he was not aware if she had given a reason.
"There were a lot of man hours and resources used in this case and it could have caused a panic. In the end she simply made up the entire story," he said.
