Police release details about deadly Jacksonville shooting

Posted: Updated:

JACKSONVILLE (KYTX) - Jacksonville Police are releasing new details about what led up to the shooting death of youth league coach and club owner Stacy Hunter.

The walls of Stacy Hunter's club on North Jackson Street now stand as a memorial.

It was on the other side of those walls, Jacksonville Police say 24-year-old Jacksonville man Jimmy Mosley shot Stacy to death early Saturday morning.

Family members say the two men are cousins.

"It's a tragedy that never should have happened," says Stacy's Aunt Brenda, who says her entire family is having trouble coping with the loss.

Police say Mosley started a fight at Stacy's club early in the night.

"Stacy actually broke that fight up," said Jacksonville Police Detective Daniel Franklin.

Police say just hours later Mosley shot Stacy.

"[Mosley] has a history of violence," Franklin says. "He has several cases that have been filed in the past for him pulling a gun on somebody or threatening to kill somebody. "

Police believe this time, he had intent to steal money from Stacy.

"The information we're getting at this point is that it was a possible robbery. That's why he's charged with capital murder," Franklin said.

Police say Mosley fired several shots, killing Stacy.

Two days after Stacy Hunter's death, posters line the walls of his club, from community members whose lives he touched.

"Everyone knew Stacy as the football coach, as the Little Dribblers basketball coach, as just a man that wanted to help children," Holman said.

He was a father, friend, and community icon who will be greatly missed.

Mosley is behind bars, charged with capital murder. His bond is $250,000.
