Grace Community School:
Tyler (KYTX) – The combined Grace Community School 8th Grade History classes taught by Coach Tom Alden are continuing a long annual tradition this week as they build an authentic log cabin. The yearly project was started more than a dozen years ago by Coach Alden as a ‘hands on' way to bring history to life by letting the students actually experience the challenges and effort required to build this tradition shelter of early American life. The construction site is located behind the Grace Community School administration building, located at 3001 Spur 248 in Tyler.
The cabin is to be a featured auction item at this year's Auction on the Orient Express with proceeds going to benefit The Grace Fund, the annual fund of Grace Community School which provides needs-based financial aid and educational enhancements. The auction will be held on Thursday, November 1, at 5:30 PM at the CrossWalk Center, Green Acres Baptist Church, 1607, Troup Highway in Tyler. Other auction items donated by the community range from student services (mowing, babysitting, painting, etc.) to an African safari!
