Released by the City of Longview
LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Partners in Prevention and the Coalition
for Drug-Free Youth will sponsor Rising out of the
Thicket Zombie Walk to benefit the
coalition.
The undead outbreak will occur on
November 17, 2012, at Teague Park, 415 American
Legion Blvd. Prizes will be given for the
best male, female, child, and pet zombie
immediately following the walk. A
supernatural family comedy movie classic will be
shown at the amphitheater in the park. The
walk is family-friendly, so participants of all
ages are welcome to join in the fun. Participants
are encouraged to bring shrouds (blankets) and
join the fun for a chilling evening.
Refreshments will be available.
According
to Terry Barrett, Program and Outreach
Coordinator, "Zombie events are actually very
popular right now across the country, and we
thought this would be an interesting way to bring
attention to the efforts of the Coalition for Drug
Free Youth. We are saying it is alright to dress
up like a zombie just for fun, but don't become a
zombie by abusing drugs."
During
the walk, all participants are encouraged to
remain in character as zombies, communicating only
in a zombie-like manner, such as grunting,
groaning and moaning. Many Texas cities,
such as Corpus Christi, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston
and San Antonio have held annual uprisings as
charitable events. The Rising
out of the Thicket event proceeds will benefit the
Coalition for Drug-Free Youth to assist in their
initiative to prevent underage drinking and drug
use.
On-site
registration will begin at 4 p.m. and the walk
will starting at 5 p.m. Participants may
pre-register at LongviewTexas.gov or at the
Partners in Prevention Office, 140 E. Tyler St.,

10 and older, and $2 for ages 9 and younger.
