Republican Senate candidate Ted Cruz visits East Texas

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) -- Republican Senate candidate Ted Cruz spoke to East Texas voters at a Grassroots America We The People meeting Friday morning as part of his final campaign push leading up to the November election.

Cruz made a point of calling out prominent democrats, chiefly President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, for what he called a failed legacy of service to the American people. On the pending expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts, Cruz said Obama is on the wrong path and essentially insuring continued economic stagnation.

"Our ideas work," Cruz said. "Their ideas don't."

Cruz said Obama was like a deer in the headlights during debates, lacking a clear plan for creating jobs. He said Obama's plans were similar to President Jimmy Carter's reign over a US economy that include "a suffocating level of taxes and regulations ended by [President Ronald] Reagan's policies that were 180-degrees to the opposite."

"In the entirety of Obama's time in office our economy has averaged a growth rate of just 1.5 percent annually," he said, adding that the average rate for the 70 years prior more than double that.

Cruz called for voter to go to the polls now, rather than waiting, and to bring their friends.

"What we've been fighting for the past four years, to turn this country around, comes down to the next eleven days," he said.

Cruz has stops planned in Beaumont and Corpus Christi over the weekend.
