TYLER (KYTX) - People from all over East Texas gathered in Tyler Saturday to pray for the future of America.
The event, called America's Turning Point, was held at Green Acres Baptist Church.
East Texas Christians of different denominations and political parties sang together for the same purpose.
"America's Turning Point is about Christians from all over East Texas, or anyone around East Texas that wants to come and pray for America," said Green Acres Pastor David Dykes. "It is a non partisan, non denominational event of believers coming together to just pray for America that we would turn back to God."
The belief is that unity will bring change.
Pastor Steven Charles with FP Creek Church in Lindale said, "Whatever party, whatever denomination, whatever affiliation, we want to come together under the banner of Jesus Christ."
The ten pastors involved with America's Turning Point say change needs to start within the church.
"When the pastors get together we don't see each other as competition," says Pastor Dan Cummins with Bridlewood Church in Bullard. "We see each other as companions in an effort to transform our community and to help our community."
By influencing their communities they hope to make a shift towards a spiritual nation.
Kay Jones from Tyler says, "I came to this event because of the concern in my heart and in my mind for this country."
"I believe the main goal is that there will be a spiritual awakening in America, and by that I mean that Americans will realize that the foundation of this nation was built upon the principles of God's word," Pastor Cummins says.
For those principles, hundreds stood together as a community, in prayer. The event was held at Green Acres, but was not specifically a Green Acres event. Pastors came to speak from all over East Texas.
