Health Alert: Exercise could make you smarter

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Exercise may make you smarter. Canadian researchers put six adults who didn't exercise on a regular workout program. Four months later the study participants were not only healthier - they also performed better on cognitive tests. Doctors say exercise improves blood flow to the brain.

(CBS) - Women who lose a lot of weight appear to have healthier kids. Doctors looked at mothers who had children before and after undergoing bariatric surgery. The kids born after the moms lost weight had fewer cardiovascular risk factors than their older brothers and sisters. Researchers believe weight loss and better health can improve certain genes mothers pass on to their children.

(CBS) - If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, here's another reason to get one. Scientists say it can also protect against heart attack and stroke. Doctors at the University of Toronto studied three thousand people. They found those who got a flu shot had a 50 percent lower risk of suffering a major cardiovascular problem.
