Longview (KYTX) - Halloween night someone could be about 30 million dollars richer from playing the Texas Lotto. That's the largest jackpot they've had this year.
Alton perry is a regular at zippy jays, and every day he buys a lottery ticket.
"I've been buying them for about a year, I had a friend that use to buy them all the time and I'd see how much he'd win and it gave me the itch I guess."
He says he takes the daily risk because every now and then he'll win big money.
Store manager Brandy Hall says she's seen it happen.
"Once in a while they'll win a $500 jackpot on a $20 ticket."
"I won $300 last week."
But this jackpot is different, 30 million dollars different.
"If you're not familiar with how the Texas lotto jackpot works, players win the jackpot by correctly matching 6 numbers from a field of 54.players can also win prizes by matching 3, 4, or 5 of the 6 numbers drawn."
Some even have their own strategy to increase their chances of winning big.
"Some will by 50 quick picks some will buy 2 quick picks. Some pick their own numbers some don't."
Shondarius Standberry says he played once, lost and never bought a ticket again.
"The economy is bad and it's just a waste of money."
But the economy is the very reason some people say they're buying their lottery tickets.
"Most of them are trying to win money for Christmas to buy gifts, a lot of them actually buy the tickets for presents."
And for some, the appeal of being an instant millionaire is enough...
"Just for a chance at the 30 million I'd love to win it."
Because if he does...
"I'd probably freak out and call everybody I know and tell them."
"I would quit my job."
The Texas Lottery Commission says the chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 25.8 million, something to keep in mind when you buy that ticket.
