TYLER, TEXAS (KYTX) -- Sonya Meador has been snapping pictures since she got to New Jersey Sunday.
"The flooding is becoming a major concern, local reports say Atlantic City is underwater," Meador, a Red Cross volunteer from the Smith County chapter, said.
Meador is holed up in Neptune, New Jersey, about an hour from Atlantic City. She says the anxiety there is growing.
"The hotel is full. There are a lot of people that have been evacuated from the coast and they are turning people away because they are so full here," Meador said.
Four people from the Smith County chapter were deployed to assist in relief efforts. One person to New York, one to the D.C.-Virginia area, and one to New York.
"We have to plan for the worst and we had to send some folks in ahead of the storm," Tammy Prater, Executive Director for the East Texas Red Cross, said.
Prater says it's hard to say how this disaster will compare to others in the past. Meador is waiting to see what kind of job she'll be assigned.
"I may drive to different destroyed homes and buildings and feed people there, or I may be working in shelter," she said.
Other workers will be helping with health services and other staffing needs.
