LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Gregg County Elections Administrator says on the day of the last Presidential election, people swarmed the courthouse and flooded the phone lines needing to know where they were supposed to go to vote. This time around, she says she's created a solution in hopes of avoiding a repeat of what happened in 2008.
"The card that we just sent out is simply a reminder to tell you what your voting precinct number is and where that precinct will vote on election day."
"In 2008 we had so many calls on election day we broke the phone system, it completely locked up."
Because if you wait until election day to find out this information, Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy says you probably wont have much luck.
So Mary - Helen Spurgeon decided to vote early, to eliminate election day confusion.
After the 2010 Census, the Gregg County voting entity had to draw new lines according to the changes of population shown. Because of that, several precincts and voting locations have changed.
"This year we are supposed to go to a precinct 10 and I do not know the location of that."
"If you don't know where you're supposed to go and vote you're going to have a very serious problem."
Gregg County Election officials say that these notice cards include more helpful information like instructions and it gives advice on the best times to go and vote.
If you don't get one in the mail...
"You're not registered to vote and I couldn't send you one, or you didn't give me your new address and I didn't know where to send it."
Or it's possible you haven't received your card yet. Betty Dodson says she wouldn't let a change in her polling location keep her from voting...
"It's important that you get the right information so you can get your vote in."
There are 21 precincts in Gregg County, and all 21 will have locations open for voting on November 6th.
