Health Alert: Anti-depressant risks during pregnancy

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Taking a certain type of anti depressant during pregnancy could put women and babies at risk. A study in the journal "Human Reproduction" focused on medications known as SSRI's. Researchers found those drugs increase the risk of miscarriage, pre-term birth, and neo-natal health complications. Many women undergoing fertility treatments are also depressed and about 11-percent take SSRI's. Doctors say those women need to be aware of the risks before taking that medication.

(CBS) - Patients who survive cancer often face other physical or mental problems that put their health at risk. Researchers from the National Cancer Institute and the Centers for Disease Control studied thousands of cancer survivors. 25-percent reported poor physical health - even after beating cancer. That's compared to 10-percent among adults without cancer. Survivors of cervical, blood and colorectal cancers were most likely to experience problems.

(CBS) - And a new study tells us to think twice before starting the day with a fatty breakfast sandwich. Canadian researchers looked at the effects of eating processed cheese and meat on a bun, even for just one day. They found that two hours after eating the sandwich, there was already a decrease in blood vessel function.
