Tyler dentist warns about Halloween candy

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - It wouldn't be Halloween without lots of candy, but those sweets can cause serious problems for your children's teeth.

Dr. Culberson Boren with Dentistry for Children in Tyler says parents should be especially cautious about letting their children eat sticky and hard candies. The sticky ones are more likely to cause cavities and hard candies can chip or break teeth.

"After Halloween is over with and the kids have gorged themselves, throw it in the trash." says Dr. Boren. "It's trash food. It does nothing but make us overweight, give us diabetes and give us lots of cavities."

Dr. Boren says you can reduce your risk of getting cavities by cutting down on sugar and keeping up with brushing and flossing every day.
