Senator John Cornyn Worried About Ballots Reaching Soldiers

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- State Senator John Cornyn is not happy over the delay in ballots reaching soldiers overseas.

Cornyn, along with three other senators from around the U.S., wrote a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

The issue lies in the difference the way mail is forwarded to troops overseas.

Cornyn is worried the ballots are not going to reach troops on time.

Part of his letter to Panetta said, "Thousands of overseas service members, as well as some who have recently returned from overseas could be currently trapped in an archaic and inefficient mail forwarding system .... These ballots are unlikely to reach these service members until after election day has passed."

Right now the military postal service's delay is anywhere from 14 to 50 days.
